Ballymun Athletics Club

History

Ballymun Athletics Club was first founded in 2022 following a successful merger of Up the flats running club, Ballyoung running club and the Ballymun Triathlon club. It was founded with the aim of providing free access to sport for young people in the Ballymun community. In the first ever committee meeting the club made the commitment to never ever charge a juvenile athlete a single cent to access the club. This value remains the same to this day and is sustained by a unique business plan. For every adult that joins the club they sponsor a child to run for free.

Ballymun Athletics Club has played a pivotal role in attending local competitions and events and fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among its members. The club continues to be a vibrant and integral part of the Ballymun community, inspiring generations of athletes to strive for excellence.

Following successful governance, oversight and management the club were officially affiliated as an Athletics Ireland official club and ratified at Dublin county board in February 2023. All club members including committee members, coaches and volunteers shall register annually with the Athletic Association of Ireland and will be subject to the rules and regulations of the AAI.

The club registered the club colours of Black and Yellow with the AAI, which confirm with IAAF/AAI rules.

The club followed affiliation with its appropriate County Board and Provincial Council of the Athletic Association of Ireland.
