Introduction

This Code of Conduct outlines the expected standards of behavior for all members of Ballymun AC, including juvenile and senior athletes, coaches, and officials. It is based on the principles and policies of Athletics Ireland to ensure our club is a safe, fair, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for everyone.

All members agree to abide by this Code upon joining or renewing membership.

🔶 1. Juvenile Members (U18)

Respect & Responsibility

• Treat coaches, officials, volunteers, and fellow athletes with respect.

• Follow the rules of training and competition.

• Respect the decisions of coaches and officials without argument.

• Never engage in bullying (verbal, physical, or online).

Participation

• Attend training and events on time and in the proper club gear.

• Give your best effort in all club activities.

• Inform your coach in advance if you can’t attend.

Health & Safety

• Always warm up and cool down as advised.

• Tell your coach if you feel unwell, injured, or uncomfortable.

• Never use drugs, alcohol, or any banned substances.

Online Behavior

• Be respectful online, including in group chats and social media.

• Never post images or videos of others without permission.

• Report any online bullying or inappropriate content to a coach or parent.

⚫ 2. Senior Members (Over 18)

Integrity & Role Modelling

• Act as a positive role model for younger athletes.

• Uphold the values of sportsmanship, honesty, and effort.

• Treat all athletes, volunteers, and officials with respect.

Participation

• Support club training, events, and initiatives.

• Maintain a high standard of personal conduct and fitness.

• Report any concerns regarding safety, welfare, or conduct.

Conduct at Events

• Respect officials and competitors at all times.

• Represent Ballymun AC with pride, whether training or competing.

• Adhere to all Athletics Ireland and club rules.

Behavior at Non-Competitive Events

Senior members of Ballymun AC are expected to uphold the same high standards of conduct at non-competitive events as they would during training or competition. These events include, but are not limited to, awards nights, expos, club trips, fundraisers, and social gatherings.

• Represent Ballymun AC with integrity and maturity at all times.

• Show respect for event organizers, staff, fellow attendees, and all property or facilities involved.

• Any involvement in theft, vandalism, or inappropriate behavior will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter, potentially resulting in suspension or removal from the club.

• Always follow the instructions and guidance of club officials during any club-related activity or trip.

This section is intended to ensure that all members contribute to a safe, respectful, and positive image of the club in the wider community.

🟡 3. Coaches

Duty of Care

• Prioritize the welfare, safety, and development of all athletes.

• Ensure training is appropriate for age, ability, and stage of development.

• Promote enjoyment as well as performance

Child Protection & Safeguarding

• Be fully vetted and compliant with Athletics

Ireland safeguarding requirements.

• Never engage in inappropriate physical contact or one-on-one interactions without transparency.

• Report any concerns or disclosures to the Club Children’s Officer promptly.

Behavior & Communication

• Be respectful and fair to all athletes.

• Avoid favoritism or discrimination.

• Use appropriate language and avoid sarcasm or criticism that could harm confidence.

Professionalism

• Stay informed through coach education and continued development.

• Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times.

⚫ 4. Club Officials and Volunteers

Respect & Fairness

• Act with integrity, fairness, and impartiality.

• Treat all athletes, coaches, and members with respect and courtesy.

Transparency & Accountability

• Ensure decisions are fair, consistent, and in the best interest of the club.

• Keep records of meetings, disciplinary actions, and safeguarding concerns.

• Maintain confidentiality where appropriate.

Inclusion & Equality

• Ensure equal opportunity for all members regardless of gender, ability, race, or background.

• Promote a culture of openness, support, and respect.

❗ 5. Breaches of the Code

Breach of this Code may result in disciplinary action, in accordance with Athletics Ireland’s Disciplinary Procedures. Actions may include:

• Verbal or written warnings

• Suspension or removal from activities

• Referral to statutory authorities if necessary

All incidents will be handled fairly, confidentially, and in line with national guidelines.

✅ 6. Declaration

All members (or guardians, in the case of juveniles), coaches, and officials must read and agree to this Code of Conduct annually.

I agree to uphold the Ballymun AC Code of Conduct and understand the consequences of breaching it.
